When a woman feels fear during childbirth, her body releases stress hormones that trigger the body's "fight or flight" response, This causes muscles to tighten and interferes with the birthing process.
Hypnobirthing is focused relaxation used during labour. Training the subconscious mind to expect a safe, gentle birth, learning to avoid going into the fight-or-flight state, allowing for a smoother birth. It includes breathing, relaxation, affirmations and visualisation skills to assist the labouring mother to stay calm, relaxed and focused during labour. When a mother is properly prepared for birthing physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, she can have an empowered birth experience.
Hypnobirthing is a full antenatal course focused specifically on natural birth. By releasing fear about birth and learning how the body is perfectly designed for birth and techniques to work with it rather than against it, a mother is able to birth much more easily and efficiently. Each course runs over 5 weeks and each class is 2.5 hours long. Because it is a full antenatal course it is not necessary to attend a hospital course as well. Most moms start around 28 weeks, but any time from 20 weeks onwards is perfect.
