Mama Nurture believes that all women have the right to good care especially during labour and birth when they are at their most vulnerable. With this in mind, Mama Nurture supports the Compassionate Birth Project who strives to make birth a positive experience for all, even those who cannot afford private healthcare and all the sector promises to offer.
The Compassionate Birth Project is a systems based programme which offers staff working in public maternity units, from midwives and doctors to clerks and security, a process to discover the human compassion within themselves, empowering them to provide more holistic, patient centred care – where every mother and every infant matter. The Compassionate Birth Project programme is aligned to the Maternal and Infant Health component of the Sustainable Development Goals.
At a time where parents have to say hello and goodbye to their little babies, it is so vital that they get support, guidance and love in their dark time. Unfortunately this is not always the type of care mothers and fathers receive, especially in some parts of the public healthcare sector in South Africa.
To help combat this, Mama Nurture will be teaming up with The Compassionate Birth Project to provide Bereavement Doula training within less fortunate communities. You too can make a difference in the lives of birthing mothers and grieving parents by sponsoring, or contributing to the training of these bereavement doulas.
The training course is only R4 500. It is held over a period of 3 days and it plays a vital role in changing the care system South African parents receive. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you might have.
