Jessica AckermanMy name is Jessica Ackermann, I am married and a mommy to 4 beautiful little angels, 3 on earth and one in heaven. Losing my child and almost my life in 2008 in a vehicle accident has shaken my whole being.
It took me a while to search the meaning and the wonder of what I actually should be doing… initially after thinking I would be studying more towards the corporate industry I was surprised to learn and feel such a big passion burning inside.... something very exhilarating, powerful and challenging. I have come to realize it is "to serve other mothers" To 'mother the mother.' I decided to follow my passion and become a Doula. I started off my training through Wombs SA and graduated as a Certified Doula in September 2014. I am also closely involved with PNDSA (post natal depression association of South Africa) as a PND Support Specialist. Having lost a child and often being exposed to the loss of a little one has intrigued me into studying to become a Bereavement Doula through Mama Nurture - assisting families who are anticipating or experiencing loss - miscarriage, stillbirth, terminal diagnosis during pregnancy, sudden infant death and NICU care and support in the perinatal period. I am also registered with PATCH SA (Palliative treatment for children). It continues to be an honor to be allowed into the sacred space of each birth & each family to support each family, to nurture and to be able to encourage and assist each couple in their unique journeys. |
